Welcome to Balfour Junior School

Friends of Balfour Association

The FBA is the school's parent/teacher association. It works to raise valuable funds for those 'extras' and to engender a greater sense of community around the school. All parents and teachers are members of the FBA and many of you are active contributors to fundraising and other events either as helpers, organisers or simply by spreading the word.

It is worth pointing out that the FBA is not here to substitute the school's budget but to support activities and resources that help make our childrens' time at Balfour Junior School a more rewarding experience.

We need your ideas and input to deliver all this so please get involved by supporting FBA events either as an organiser, helper, by spreading the word or by simply coming along and enjoying the events!

Projects - Where the money goes!

Last year the FBA donated over £9,000 towards projects in around the school. Our main expenditure was £5,000 towards the playground markings and other major expenditure included £1,000 towards Sports Week, £800 towards Arts Week.

More details of what we contributed to last year can be found in the minutes. Of course it is not only financial support that the FBA provides. A key project last year was the development of the garden area. Various members of the FBA contributed their gardening and construction skills in supporting Suzy Borenius to make this a reality.

For 2006/7 our main expenditure will be to:

«    Purchase and install new multimedia and public address systems in both the main halls (therefore expanding their use for both curricular and extra-curricular activities).

«    Expand the range of fiction books in the library

«    Repeat the success of last year's Sports Week and Arts Week

To balance our books and carry out all these projects the FBA hopes to raise in excess of £8,000 so we welcome any fundraising ideas as well as the support to deliver them!

Organisation

The FBA holds an AGM each year at the start of the academic year. The minutes of the 2006/7 AGM can be found by clicking the link at the foot of the page.

At the AGM anyone attending has the opportunity to stand for one of the committee posts. The FBA is a registered charity No. 1074031 and as such certain key posts are formally required under the Charities Commission (Chair, Secretary and Treasurer). Other posts are 'traditional' to the FBA (e.g. Key event organisers).

Key contacts are included in a word document at the foot of the page.

Throughout FBA business is conducted at the monthly meetings. Decisions on what fundraising events are to be organised, projects & expenditure and reporting back are covered in these meetings. Minutes of the meetings can be found below. These meetings are open to all comers.

To help organise and communicate events and gain feedback from parents each class has a class rep. Class reps have a key role in the FBA as without them we would not  be able to gain the feedback and support of parents for the activities (and expenditure) organised by the FBA.

A list of the Class Reps for each class is below. Make contact with yours now!

If you want to get involved we would love your support - Please get in touch with one of the Class Reps or Committee members. Even the smallest level of involvement can make a difference!
