Hello everyone - I was a pupil at Balfour from 1945 to 1951 and then on to Varndean Grammar School. Mr Slater was the Head Master in those days and have some, but not all!, fond memories of the school.

I love school Mrs Parfitt! Science and maths are my best subjects.

bal4 is kl but soon i will leave im sorry but master has chosen me goodbye young ones may the force be wif u!

The site looks wonderful again Mr Searle. It is so nice to catch up with what is happening at school throught the wonderful slideshows. The bag making in Year 5 looked fantastic - I feel very sad that I missed it but im still recovery from my accident in sports week when i tore my achilles tendon. Tallulah loved her visit to Preston Manor and it was great to see all the activites on here.

Balfour is obviously a really happy and hard-working school, which plans and takes part in many worthwhile activities and events. I hope to visit in person soon, in the meantime I'll keep updated via your website!

Bal4 Well wat can i say gr8 school and got outstanding in offstead ...achievment i think so .....im in yr6 and i have had great teachers includin Mr.lacey (YR3) Miss.mullholand(YR4) also Miss.monks(YR5) and i have now got Mrs.simmonds Yr6
but da problem is were so good a school we mite explode with friendship and friendlyness but hope fully were just below that good........anyhow bal4 school is gr8
oh wat the heck i need to do my space project got to go and remember bal4 school is gr8 and it rulz!!

I love balfour i always go on this site but i have never had the courage to write a comment, well today i read a fantastic five adventures book and i'm feeling daring! I miss all the teachers they were so pleasent to chat to and i spent alot of breaks talking to them and helping out around the classroom! I miss them some of the teachers were just great friends and i email them sometimes. I loved dressing up as victorians i spent lots of money in the clothing shop and time trying everything on so i looked amazingly victorian and strong on the day. I miss balfour with all my heart and never stop thinking about it, I'm off to start a new adventure book because i'm feeling daring.

I'm on a 6 week placement as a student teacher at this school- what an amazing school, with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, the loveliest kids and pleazant, hardworking staff and teachers. 6js, you guys have been great as a class while I've been here, thnx- miss van der merwe

stringa iz mazin but bal4 still iz gd. ha me n caz must have been mad wen we wrote that we loved it wen we sang ding dong merrily on high. BUT.. y isnt there any pictures of the yr 6 production, mr searle always said it was going to be on there and it never was. It is really unfair and plz read this n put us all singing i sail this lonely sea....plz coz every1 looked amazin in their pirate costumes better than any other production. I will make a further complaint

What a fantastic website with lots of wonderful comments! I have to agree that Balfour is a super place to be. The children are great and the teachers are too!

I attended the school from 1969 to 1975 and was in " top infants" when the new building was opened and I danced around the maypole with a boy called Thomas and played my recorder at the opening. Then I was called Helen Ryder. I have such happy memories of Balfour and Mr Wedgebury was the head and I remember the one before, whose name I can't remember, but you used to go to his office for Excellent and Good stamps (and if you were naughty!). My best friends were Sarah Foster and Penny Tobias.
I now live in Manchester and have 2 daughters both at primary school. I loooked by chance at your website as we are moving to Weymouth soon and I am having to research websites for new schools. Enjoy your time at school, it flies by.
PS The swimming pool was great as well and we saved newspapers to go in the base.

I went to Balfour (Middle School as it was then) from 1982 to 1985. Mr Wedgebury was the head teacher. Seems like a very very long time ago now!

We really enjoy looking at all the great photos of school activities - so do the grandparents! Thank-you to all the staff who take the time & trouble to maintain the school Website - it's much appreciated!

Just wantin 2 tell u peeps about the balfour GIRLS footy team ,we went 2 waterhall 2 play a 6 aside tornament and got through 2 the finals!! but lost on penaltys, waa!!

I loved Balfour. I love the new head soo much he is soooo nice. and GL (which means realy coolio). I Love Balfour. I LOOOOOOOOVE Balfour because everyone was soo nice and I made loads of friends. I miss balfour soo much and would love if I could go back a year.

Just got back from Blackland Farm. It was amazing despite the weather!! I had a great time with my mates and I'm gonna miss having breakfast with 100 people every morning!

I Used to go 2 Bal4 and I go 2 Varndean now and i really miss bal4 coz i had the best time there and my class was great! 3EL......then.......4M.......then........5F.......then.....6P!!! I loved the sports days and the talent shows and the school plays they were all great. I miss all my friends who went 2 stringa but i still keep in touch and i would just like 2 say hi to my best m8 who went 2 bal4 2.....Rachael! lol! I used to go to Balfour, and my brother still goes there, I think is a really good school and the teachers are really fun! :) :)!

I am now in year 6 and I have been in balfour since year 4 and I am enjoying Balfour soooooo much because the teaching is good and I make lots of friends. I am happy here and I`ll miss it soooooo much when I go to high school and I`ll espesally miss Mr. Ferber who is funny Miss Richardson who is kind and funny and Miss Connely who has now left :`(

I am in 6r and I am leaving this year. I have had a very nice time at Balfour and I will miss it very much. I would just like to say if you are looking on this website because you are looking for a junior school for your child choose this one. It is a fandabidozy school.

Wow. I am in year 10 now and enjoyed all my years at both of the Balfour Schools (Junior and Infants). I remember many events in the school: talent shows (which I always entered in), the school council (which I was on in year 6), building of the mosaic circle in the playground, the school play, School Daze, and my year 6 SATS. I went through a lot in Balfour, but it was brilliant. Not forgetting my teachers though, Mrs Cains, she rocked, Ms Parfitt, one of the nicest people I've ever known, and finally Ms Durai, the coolest person I have ever known. I may come back and see how the school is sometime soon. Reading the newsletter times have changed a lot, homework diaries, behaviour policies and a new logo. Well, I hope I do see all my teachers and the school again, I'll try to find the time soon.

I went to Balfour Juniors around 1990 (before that I went to Balfour Infants - and I moved up to Varndean). I have some great memories of it; it's amazing how things change, although still recognisable. And I remember doing the Victorian day too!

I attended the school from 1951-57 and have always felt that it gave me a wonderful primary education that led on to Varndean Grammar, Cambridge and a successful business career. Your site emphasises how much has changed since my time, when we did indeed sit in straight rows of desks and there were few out-of -school activities. But I see that the academic standards remain the best in Brighton; well done!
